Insurance Underwriter – Finance and Leasing Industry
Location: Remote / United States

Altius Search Group is recruiting on behalf of a client in the Insurance Industry for an experienced Underwriter. This is a great opportunity to join a growing team responsible for overseeing commercial underwriting operations, including pricing, forecasting, risk analysis, policy allocation, and out-of-binder proposals. The ideal candidate will bring strong insurance knowledge and a technical mindset to help support business objectives and underwriting standards.

Role Overview

The Underwriter will reinforce the technical capabilities of the underwriting function while contributing to the organization's overall strategic goals. This position requires a deep understanding of insurance principles and risk management and the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable underwriting decisions. The ideal candidate will have excellent stakeholder management, communication skills, and strong attention to detail.

Job requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for underwriting queries in the U.S., managing intake, triage, and accurate time estimates for resolution.

  • Underwrite risks within delegated authority and escalate as needed to leadership for approval.

  • Support the execution of policy changes, including pricing adjustments, endorsements, and administrative updates.

  • Provide technical underwriting support to internal stakeholders to help achieve financial targets.

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of underwriting systems and processes by offering feedback and ideas for development.

  • Assist with underwriting-related training and knowledge-sharing across departments.

  • Handle administrative tasks related to residual value insurance products.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support corporate objectives and ensure efficient workflow.

  • Drive operational excellence through process documentation, optimization, and automation initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 8+ years of prior underwriting experience is required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with analytical problem-solving abilities.

  • Proficient in data analysis, presentation, and interpretation.

  • Ability to explain data-driven recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Knowledge of U.S. general insurance markets, regulatory environment, and industry trends.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office tools.

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong numerical reasoning and high attention to detail.
