Job description

HR Consultant | Portland, Oregon (Hybrid)

Altius Search Group is recruiting an experienced HR Consultant for an established human resources consulting firm in Portland, Oregon.

This position is designed for an accomplished HR professional who enjoys combining strategic guidance with hands-on execution. The HR Consultant will advise multiple clients, develop practical HR solutions, and serve as a trusted partner to business owners, executives, and HR leaders.

The role offers the opportunity to broaden your impact across different organizations and industries while working within a collaborative, supportive consulting environment.

Position Responsibilities

  • Meet with business owners and HR leaders to evaluate their HR operations, identify priorities, and establish project plans.

  • Advise clients on employee relations, performance management, corrective action, workplace investigations, protected leaves, and terminations.

  • Develop and implement employee handbooks, workplace policies, onboarding programs, compensation frameworks, and compliance practices.

  • Guide on complex HR matters, including employment requirements affecting multistate workforces.

  • Coach managers and organizational leaders through sensitive employee situations and business challenges.

  • Balance strategic consulting assignments with day-to-day HR administration and implementation.

  • Coordinate with recruiting, training, and background-screening professionals to provide comprehensive client support.

  • Manage multiple client relationships, projects, deadlines, administrative records, and billable-hour expectations.

  • Participate in professional networking events and workshops.

  • Share knowledge and mentor other members of the consulting team.

Job requirements

Preferred Background

  • Several years of hands-on human resources experience.

  • Previous experience as an HR Manager, HR Business Partner, HR Director, Senior HR Generalist, or HR Consultant.

  • Broad knowledge of the employee lifecycle, including employee relations, performance management, leaves, terminations, policy development, and compliance.

  • Experience supporting employees in multiple states.

  • Ability to advise business owners and senior leaders while remaining closely involved in tactical HR work.

  • Strong knowledge of employment practices and the ability to research and interpret applicable requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of client deliverables.

  • Strong written communication, consulting, problem-solving, and relationship-management skills.

  • HR certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP is preferred but not required.

  • Experience supporting multiple organizations, business units, or industries is beneficial.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position. The selected candidate will generally work approximately two to three days per week from the Portland-area office or at client locations, with the balance of the schedule completed from a home office.

Because this is a consulting position, the individual must be comfortable shifting between clients, industries, priorities, and different types of HR assignments. This is an active, hands-on role and is not intended for someone seeking to move away from day-to-day HR responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary of $90,000–$120,000, based on experience and qualifications.

  • Employer-paid health insurance premiums.

  • 401(k) plan with a 3% employer contribution.

  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays.

  • Profit-sharing bonus opportunity.

  • Cellphone and internet reimbursement.

  • Professional development reimbursement.

  • Additional employee benefits and resources.
