Job description
Our client, a hotel property in Battle Creek, MI is looking for an Engineering Supervisor. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the hotel’s physical infrastructure, building systems, and equipment are properly maintained, safe, and operating at peak performance. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, this position oversees a team of four technicians and supports daily operations, preventive maintenance programs, project execution, safety compliance, and guest service responsiveness. The Engineering Supervisor serves as a working leader—conducting hands-on repairs while coordinating workflow, training staff, and maintaining operational excellence across the property.
Job requirements
Team Leadership & Supervision
Lead, schedule, and supervise a team of four engineering technicians, ensuring efficient completion of daily work orders, routine maintenance, and project tasks.
Provide coaching, training, and performance guidance to team members, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and accountability.
Assign and prioritize daily tasks based on operational needs and guest impact.
Conduct shift briefings and maintain strong communication with the Chief Engineer and other departments.
Hotel Operations & Maintenance
Oversee maintenance of all hotel building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, kitchen equipment, fire/life safety, pools/spas, and general facilities.
Perform hands-on repairs and troubleshooting when needed to support the team and expedite resolution of complex issues.
Ensure guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house, and exterior areas remain in excellent working condition through regular inspections and timely maintenance responses.
Support the coordination of vendor visits, equipment servicing, and capital project installations.
Preventive Maintenance & Compliance
Lead the execution of the hotel’s preventive maintenance program, ensuring all equipment and systems receive routine servicing and documentation is kept up to date.
Ensure compliance with brand standards, OSHA regulations, and local fire/life safety codes.
Participate in safety drills, risk assessments, and regulatory inspections.
Administrative & Operational Support
Review work orders for accuracy and timely completion; escalate major issues to the Chief Engineer.
Assist with procurement of parts, materials, and tools while monitoring inventory levels.
Maintain accurate logs, reports, and equipment histories.
Provide input on annual budgeting, capital planning, and long-term maintenance strategies.
Guest Service & Collaboration
Respond promptly and professionally to guest service requests related to room functionality and hotel maintenance.
Collaborate with Front Office, Housekeeping, F&B, and other departments to support operational needs and minimize guest disruption.
Uphold service standards by ensuring maintenance work is performed neatly, safely, and courteously.
Qualifications
3–5 years of hotel engineering or general building maintenance experience required.
Previous supervisory or lead role experience strongly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety systems, and general building trades.
Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and building plans.
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
EPA certification, boiler license, pool operator certification, or trade-specific licenses preferred.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, or on-call rotations as needed.
